Opus One Red Wine Napa Valley is the epitome of elegance and sophistication, capturing attention from the very first pour. Thke bouquet unfolds with alluring aromas of ripe blueberries, cassis, and dried rose petals, gracefully layered with subtle hints of olive, cigar box, and graphite for added depth. On the palate, vibrant red fruits intertwine with notes of cocoa and fresh orange peel, creating a beautifully balanced and harmonious expression. The finish is long and refined, leaving lingering impressions of wet stone, vanilla, and a delicate touch of coffee. With its fine-grained tannins and juicy ripeness, this luxurious Napa Valley wine not only delights now but also promises remarkable aging potential—perfect alongside roasted lamb, truffle risotto, or aged cheeses for a truly unforgettable experience.
The 2021 Opus One is absolutely gorgeous. Vibrant, layered and quite sensual in feel, the 2021 possesses the concentration and depth of years such as 2013 and 2010 but with more polished tannins. Dark red/purpelish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and a touch of cinnamon open gracefully.
Picked before, during and after the year's early September heat, the 2022 Opus One—a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6.5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec—admirably reflects the vintage, boasting a ripe, extroverted personality but also a slightly open-knit, coarser mouthfeel than either the 2021 or 2023. Rosemary and sandalwood notes accent cherries on the nose, while the medium- to full-bodied palate is expansive and plush, finishing with ample length and soft tannins.
Shows a lighter-bodied, fresher profile than most in this vintage, with a mix of red currant, damson plum and cherry coulis notes stitched with savory, tobacco and rose petal accents. There’s a subtle cedar shading through the finish, with a flicker of iron at the tail end. Takes a modest approach to escape most of the pitfalls of this extreme vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
