Jacques Frederic Mugnier Nuits Saint Georges 'Clos De La Marechale' captivates with its deep, bright ruby color and an aromatic nose filled with ripe red fruits, accented by subtle spicy and floral hints. On the palate, it is elegant and structured, delivering a beautifully balanced experience that culminates in a long, harmonious finish. This refined Burgundy pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, herb-crusted lamb, and aged cheeses, making every sip a memorable culinary companion.
Jacques Frederic Mugnier Nuits Saint Georges 'Clos De La Marechale' captures the classic strength and authenticity of Nuits-Saint-Georges, but without the harshness or firm young tannins often found in the village’s central sector. With just a few years of aging, it blossoms into its true personality—gracefully unfolding floral notes touched with raspberry, iris, and delicate white lilac. Elegant yet grounded, it becomes a charming partner for dishes like roast duck, herb-rubbed lamb, earthy mushroom pastas, and creamy, aromatic cheeses, creating a dining experience that feels both refined and exciting.
It would be very hard not to like this rich but finely nuanced Nuits-Saint-Georges that has the ripeness of the vintage but is also beautifully balanced on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Just beginning to show the first hint of bottle maturation, the creaminess of the tannins and dry forest floor note making it even more compelling. From organically grown grapes.
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Marechale 1er Cru is, again, very well defined on the nose with a little more complexity that de l’Arlot’s Clos de l Arlot. There s a melange of red and black fruit, sous-bois, bay leaf and clove. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-chiseled, taut and linear, with a keen thread of acidity. This is more sapid on the finish and bears a persistent aftertaste a great wine for the vintage insofar that it retains freshness and vitality without losing any terroir expression. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
This vineyard is a monopole of nearly 10ha in Premeaux-Prissey, at the very bottom of the Cote, just before Comblanchien. Although this section has a reputation for rustic wines, Frederic Mugnier’s winemaking has worked wonders here, with the destemmed fruit and gentle extraction producing a wine with an almost ethereal fruit, and just a hint of 'good bitterness'. Marvellously complex and capable of ageing.
The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale has turned out beautifully, unwinding in the glass with scents of red berries, plums, orange rind, sweet spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's firmer and chalkier than its Chambolle counterparts, and it will require a bit of patience.
This too is wonderfully fresh with its array of red raspberry, violet and warm earth where the latter element is reflected by the sleek, delineated and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess a touch of youthful austerity. This is more firmly structured and should age accordingly.
