Tawny Port is always exciting, but if you can afford to splash out, go for a 20 Year Old. All the major houses make wonderful aged tawnies and this is always one of the best. Ethereal and mellow on the palate, it boasts flavors of toffee and caramel, burnt orange and raisins, dried plums, hazelnuts and a savory hint of mushroom on the finish. Wonderful stuff!

The NV 20 Years Old Tawny Port is a field blend bottled (in a 500-milliliter bottle) in July 2015 with 102 grams per liter of residual sugar. This takes the "fresh and friendly" avenue. It is a 20 that relies more on complexity and brightness than pure power. The finish is laced with a touch of rhubarb and herbs. It is quite delicious and more gripping on the finish than I thought it might be at first taste. The mid-palate is just average and there is not a lot of "old Tawny" flavor concentration. Yet, this works very well and on its own terms, succeeds on class and finesse. Note that this has a bar top cork.

Pretty honey, caramel and butterscotch, with a hint of prunes. Medium-bodied and medium sweet, with a fresh finish. Try it with chocolate. Drink now. 2,500 CASES IMPORTED.
