Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras stands out with the darkest color in the cellar, featuring a deep, almost black core that hints at its power. The nose shows a touch of vegetal reduction at first—something that should fade with time—before revealing darker fruit, spice, and blackberry notes. Nearly 14% in alcohol, the palate is generously filled with rich fruit, offering depth and intensity, even if this vintage leans a bit away from classic Chambolle delicacy. Bold yet refined, it’s a compelling match for hearty dishes like roast duck, grilled meats, or richly flavored fare that can meet its depth head-on.

Wine Advocate: 95 Points

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of cherries, rich berries, coniferous forest floor and violets, the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras is full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with broad shoulders and huge depth at the core, its sweet core of fruit framed by powdery but present tannins. Once again, patience will be required, so readers looking for immediate gratification should look elsewhere in the range.

John Gilman: 94 Points

The 2020 les Cras was the only wine that was showing just a touch of reduction at the time of my visit, so a bit of coaxing was required to get the wine to start to stir and show its many facets. Eventually, it blossomed in the glass to offer up a beautifully complex nose of black cherries, dark berries, woodsmoke, pigeon, currant leaf, a beautifully complex base of limestone soil, a touch of fresh herb tones and a dollop of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and also quite closed down at the present time, with a rock solid core of fruit excellent soil signature, ripe, buried tannins, a sappy core of black fruit and a very, very long, well-balanced finish. This is the most closed wine of the range this year, but also one of the longest and all it will need is bottle age to start to shine. (Drink between 2035-2090)

Burghound: 92-95 Points

From a .85 ha parcel. This was the only wine in the range that displayed more than a smidgeon of reduction though it's enough to suppress the underlying fruit. As is usually the case, there is more size, weight and muscle if not necessarily more minerality to the medium-bodied flavors that display focused power on the austere, compact and wonderfully long finish. This too is going to require extended patience and I doubt that it's going to make for especially interesting drinking before 10 years have passed.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*

Vinous Media: 92 Points

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a relatively straightforward yet well-defined, somewhat "cool" bouquet with darker fruit and a light marine scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a toasty entry. The oak is a little pronounced here and masks some of the terroir expression. It is more of a brutish Chambolle at first, quite Morey-like, though it settles in the glass, coheres and gains more roundness with time. I believe this has more to give. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
