Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin Clos du Chateau offers a pale, finely structured wine marked by elegance, balance, and impressive staying power. Crafted from old (but not ancient) vines and kept in check by sensible yields, it captures the pure, refined Rousseau style. While the wine may appear light and delicate in its youth, time in the cellar reveals growing depth and substance, making it a rewarding companion at the table—especially with roast poultry, pork, or classic French dishes that highlight its graceful evolution.

The Clos du Chateau is the village-level parcel worked in metayage by Rousseau of 1.17 hectares of vines from Louis Ng of Macao. The aromas are forward and fruity, with less intensity and complexity than the classic village-level Gevrey from this domaine. Cyrielle's work, however, is in evidence of the deft balance between fruit, freshness, and robust structure, and this must be counted as a lovely success. It will be ready to drink soon after release and is suited for mid-term cellaring.

Relatively firm reduction is enough to mask the underlying fruit. Otherwise, the sleek, delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors are supported by ripe tannins on the lingering and inviting finish where the only nit is a trace of warmth.
